TAMIL NADU IN LAMBADI LIVE IN SALEM , DHARMAPURI, ERODE, THIRUVANNAMALAI: 5000 PEPOLE STAING DHARMAPURI: About 750 Lambadi community people, including 150 women, staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorates at Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri on Thursday demanding Scheduled Tribe status. D. Annadurai, president Tamil Nadu Panjara Seva Sangam, told ‘The Hindu’ that they were demanding Scheduled Tribe status in education and employment.

He said the government had issued Scheduled Tribe status to them before 1971, afterwards, they were included in the Backward Community by the government. About 1.50 lakh Lambadi commuity people are living in Tamil Nadu. A majority of them eke out their living in Dharmapuri and Tiruvannamalai districts. In Dharmapuri alone, 50,000 Lambadis were living in Harur, Pennagaram and Dharmapuri taluks. Educate Since, the community people were living below the poverty line, they couldn’t afford to educate their children as they had to compete with the BC category students. “As our number is negligible, many a time the people’s representatives never bother to visit our areas, except during election period,” the Sangam president said. Amenities Most of them are living without basic amenities like roads, drinking water facilities and other amenities in the hamlets,” he lamented. He said the people in Urigam in Krishnagiri district were facing a lot of difficulties as they do not have proper roads to reach their village, no drinking water and other basic amenities.
